By The River (Dogs)

DOGS

These guys are my third favorite band in the world. They're a British indie/alternative rock band from London who have toured with Paul Weller, Razorlight and The Enemy. My friend introduced them to me a while back when he was playing some FIFA 2006 and their song "London Bridge/End of an Era" came on. The only word that can describe them is "British". They sound British, look British, and are in fact...British. Easily influenced by The Jam and The Clash, Dogs manage to retain aggressiveness but with a smidgen of loving fun. Their sophomore album Tall Stories From Under The Table catalyst-ed my love this band. They tried to steer away from their punky and raw sound of the first album but still managed to keep their edge in this album. With instrumental progressions and strong melodies, this album is easily their best yet. Although the band planned to abandon their previously "punky and raw sound", the typical rhythmic-led structure of the songs that evolves into a fully blown chorus with melodic delectable riffs and corresponding bass lines appears to fall back into their post-punk ways. Nevertheless, check these guys out, there is a reason they are my third favorite band. And in the words of Dogs....bring on the blissful ignorance!

Here is a photo of their fans taken at one of their many shows in London (which I am dying to go to). This picture, in my opinion, epitomizes the band. They're British, crazy and fun loving. What more could you want?

This song here is "Winston Smith". It's about the George Orwell novel 1984, hence the name "Winston Smith". The opening riff to this song is what does it for me. Take a listen:

"Soldier On" This is the music video for the song and just so happens to be my best friend Elena's favorite song by them.

But here is the song that jump started their career and the song heard in FIFA 2006:

First song off of Tall Stories From Under The Table

This song is my favorite song on the album. It was my Summer 2009 theme song.
